Current Events
The operation did declare bankruptcy to clear its skirts of some material debts incurred during its construction and opening phases. However: Such bankruptcy did not involve a liquidation and closing down of the enterprise. It merely involved the restructuring of debt and creditors to relieve the enterprise of some of its debt burdens. Key Lime Cove continues in operation and is a true asset to the general commerce of our Village. The enterprise not only augments the offerings of Great America and other attractions; but, in and of itself helps draw out of town guests to our Village. We Westgate residents would never wish to see Key Lime Cove now close down or become a ghost town. So whatever the reader can do to help promote it to friends, family, and out of town folks is a benefit to us all.
Tollway Soundwall Status The soundwall was finally constructed in 2008 after at least 15 years of lobbying and effort by Committeeman Ken Arnold and several fellow Westgate residents. Residents report that it HAS materially cut down on both sound and light pollution from the Tollway as well as Gurnee Mills. However: In all honesty ALL residents (including Ken Arnold himself) fully expected a much more robust wall than was built. The Illinois Tollway Authority obviously "knew what they were doing". They KNEW they would be short changing residents and, therefore, FAILED to hold public hearings on the plans for the wall. The FIRST time residents knew it was going in was WHEN GROUND WAS BROKEN and the plans were already cast!!! This was truly testiment to how insensitive government within the State of Illinois has truly become! Each of us must work to elect representatives, and reform government at ALL levels, to avoid such devious behaviors on the part of government. Because..."A government which fears its people is a government that people should fear...!"
